Dick Tracy is a comic strip created by Chester Gould who first appeared on October 4, 1931 in the Detroit Mirror. Along with a colourful cast of villains, Gould would go on to make one of the most popular characters in American comic book history. Over the years, Dick Tracy has seen many adaptions in other forms of media such as radio, TV, video games including a major motion picture in 1990.
Comic book history was made this month when a copy of Batman #1 (1940), which features the first appearances of The Joker and Catwoman, sold in a private auction for $850,000. The book was CGC graded at a 9.2, which is one of the best known copies in circulation. Batman #1 sold for 10 cents when it was published 72 years ago. Talk about getting your money back.
Johnny Storm sacrifices himself so that his fellow superhero, The Thing, can escape the Negative Zone, a parallel universe discovered by his Fantastic Four cohort Rex Reed. In issue #587, currently on newsstands, Storm is shown being overcome by monstrous bug people from the alternate world.
